Now that I've gathered Hemus and Schoendiest from the early '50s Cards, I also happened to stumble across an article about an old ballplayer (and relative of a family friend) who briefly found himself on the same lineup card: www.salisburypost.com/article/20140124/SP02/140129803/It's too bad he didn't make our CATO, as he had seen the last of the majors as a player by 1953. But the managing chronicle is fun, as well, and includes a bit of Ted Turner shenanigans. Toward the end of the article, it mentions Vern managing the AAA Syracuse Chiefs in the late '70s while his son, Randy, pitched there at the height of his career. (Too bad he won't show up in our draft classes, either!) Hope it's an enjoyable read for you, if you choose to take a few minutes.
