8:45 am Astro's have announced that they are shopping the 6th pick. If a deal gets done, it will probably have to be finished by around noon.
9: 30 am The offical team draft watch party has started. For a team that is rebuilding, draft day is an exciting time. The electricity in the air on the morning commute was palpable. The city has every right to be excited. Many fans believe the team will be able to anchor their future pitching staff behind ace Carlos Villanueva. The Astros have 3 picks in the first round at 6, 11, 28. Most of the people we talked to at the local watch party don't want to see the team trade back in the first round. The current fan favorite seems to be Chris Archer but it looks like the Astros will have Starter options as well as middle relievers.
9:43 am Pittsburgh has reportedly shown interest in the #6 pick
9:45 am TB is on the clock that hasn't officially started running yet, leaving 2 picks before the Astros are on the clock.
9:59 am Houston has expressed interest in an unnamed player from Baltimore.
10:04 am Lew Ford stumbles past where we are set up for the watch party, outside the stadium. He seems to be intoxicated and is yell slurring, "The Astros had better not draft a left fielder!"
4:00 pm Hope of Longoria falling to the Astros is dashed and Houston is on the clock.
4:05 pm No trades have come to fruition, the Astros select SP Mike Leake.
6:20 pm Waiting.....waiting.....waiting to see if there is a Friday night push in the first round.
7:10 pm San Diego goes down the board to get a bat and Houston quickly selects MR Zach Britton with the #11 pick. Britton is rated at b/b/b/a/b. Many experts think he has closer potential with a 69% groundball rating and an above average fastball.
