Despite having fired Skitty, the Lew Ford saga continues to escalate in Houston. This morning, the Chronicle posted an open letter from Lew Ford that absolutely blasted the lottery draft, league leaders, cats, the knuckleball, and the lack of a designated hitter in the NL. Most readers could smell the alcohol oozing off the page. While his opinions may not carry much weight, his off field behavior is quickly becoming an issue for the Astros. Nobody believes that he actually voted in the, "Is Brian an asshole" poll, nobody cares that he likes dogs better than cats, the knuckleball is a relic of the past, and the DH is probably inevitable. The same way that it is probably inevitable that Lew Ford will not be in an Astro uniform by opening day and it is inevitable that his recent off the field issues will inevitably crash down upon him. He was last seen during draft day 1, cussing about the possibility of his replacement being drafted. Today's rampage about Longoria and the lottery draft may explain why he has been underperforming his brilliant HR rating. If Joe Price does not pan out, it is likely inevitable that Ford will be trying to take over the manager position too, over a 6er of Natty Light. The best we can hope for is that this distraction goes away soon, because it is inevitable that this situation does not end well.
