The American League's best player of the week was Baltimore's R.A. Dickey, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Dickey was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.62. Along the way he struck out 8 in 16.2 innings. He hurled a shutout as well. The National League's best player of the week was Arizona's Carlos Pena, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Carlos pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .481 with 6 HR and 13 RBI while slugging 1.259. Carlos managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. His season features a batting average of .368 (21 hits in 57 AB), 3 doubles, no triples and 8 taters. Pena collected 17 RBI and 15 runs as well. Sunday 4/17/2006: Alfonso Soriano homers three times against Toronto
TORONTO - Alfonso Soriano beat Toronto, but he did it without mercy, playing like a one man wrecking crew. Baltimore's second baseman slugged three homeruns, once again proving that he is among the elite sluggers. In the 1st inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Bryan Ward. A 410 foot drive to center field marked his 2nd bomb, a solo homerun off Bryan Ward in the 2nd inning. His 3rd shot, off Tom Shearn in the 6th inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in left-center. Alfonso finished with 3 hits in 6 AB, scoring three times and driving in 4 runs. In the 3rd of the game against Florida he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being taken to a local hospital, Haren was examined by specialists. ST. LOUIS - St. Louis' centerfielder Preston Wilson will miss about 8-9 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 4th inning of the game between St. Louis and Houston.
