Braves 5-9
The Braves went 5-3 over the week to crawl within 2 games of the lead. Finally, the Braves pitching was all on the field again with Maddux, Smoltz, Smith and Rupe healthy again for the first time since the opening week of baseball. Moltz picked up a win and so did Maddux, which allows Maddux to keep a scant one game lead on the all time record list of 423 to 422.
The week started with three straight wins, followed by three straight losses, including two vs the Giants, which have an awful team but are still winning. The painful game was Godon of the Dodgers outpitching Maddux in a 0-1 loss. There is no rhyme or reason to the Braves bats, either they are on, or they might as well not even take at bats. There doesn’t seem to be any in between.
All in all though, it’s good to see the pitching staff continue to come together and gel.
