Braves 5-16
The Braves went 3-3 over the week and are within 3 games of the lead. According to Pythagoras they should be 26 – 14 with a two game lead over the Phillies. Instead in reality they only have 22 wins, and are in third place.
Just as the pitching was really starting to gel, the Braves lost the free agent signee Rupe to a four to five week injury. The pitching staff is back in familiar territory being number one in ERA and homers allowed, and number two in runs allowed.
Also, this past week, Smoltz picked up a win and Maddux got none, and now they are both tied for the all time lead in wins with 423.
For the week the Braves started with two wins versus San Diego, followed by two losses to Pitt, then a win, and closed out with a loss to the Cards.
The Braves just are not performing in one run games like they normally do.
