Phillies May Report
Record: 16-12 Home: 7-4 Road: 9-8
Positive Team Stat: HRs Allowed–35 (2nd) Notes: We are the best at swiping bases, but we are also one of the very best at keeping the ball in the ballpark. Negative Team Stat: Batting Average–.270 (14th) Notes: This team should be a bit better than middle of the pack at accumulating hits. I’m hopeful some of our guys regress to the mean sooner rather than later.
Major League Spotlight
Best Hitter: 3B Scott Rolen April Stats: .267/.407/.651/1.059 OPS 4 2Bs 9 HRs 21 RBIs 18 Runs 13 BBs 21 Ks Notes: Scott Rolen bounces back in a big way after a terrible April. He went from having an OPS of .600 something to being way over 1.000 for this month. He slugged 9 home runs while also providing plenty of runs and ribbies. Heck of a month, and it doesn’t even include the outstanding defense he provides.
Best Pitcher: SP Ben Sheets April Stats: 5 Starts 3-1 2.35 ERA 38.1 IP 23 Hs 10 ERs 6 BBs 33 Ks Notes: Who else would it be? Ben Sheets is an absolute CY Young candidate if he can stay healthy and keep it rolling. John Thomson had a strong month, but it still pales in comparison to Ben Sheets’ outstanding month.
Minor League Spotlight
Prospect: CF Chris Young (A) Notes: Chris Young is putting up absolutely silly numbers, and while he may never cut it, it’s been fun to monitor thus far. 21 HRs and 71 RBIs in just 61 games is outlandish stuff.
