Tuesday 6/21/2006: Victor Zambrano (TEX) will miss 7 weeks
TEXAS - Texas' pitcher Victor Zambrano was part of a scary incident that saw the right-hander being hit by a line drive in the 4th inning of the game between Texas and Chicago (A). Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Zambrano will miss about 7 weeks. Zambrano was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Fractured Skull. This season Zambrano compiled an ERA of 2.44, going 3-2 in 9 starts. He fanned 53 while giving up 57 hits in 55.1 innings.
Monday 6/20/2006: Los Angeles (A)'s Hundley wins Player of the Week award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Todd Hundley, Los Angeles (A)'s starting first baseman. Todd pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .476 with 4 HR and 9 RBI while slugging 1.190. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 8 game hitting streak right now. Eric Chavez from Houston wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Eric went 15 for 28 (.536), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 7 RBI. Eric managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. Chavez has walked 20 times this year and posts a .333 OBP. While batting .274, 69 for 252, he has driven in 46 runs.
Saturday 6/18/2006: Seattle's Wiggins out for 6 weeks
SEATTLE - When it rains, it pours. Seattle's southpaw Scott Wiggins will not pitch for at least 6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Detroit where he left the field in the 3rd inning. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Strained Elbow Ligament. Scott has a record of 1-3 this season, with an ERA of 4.09. In 55 Innings he was able to strike out 38 batters.
