Tuesday 7/12/2006: Tampa Bay's Franklin out for 5-6 weeks
TAMPA BAY - Tampa Bay is without its lefty Wayne Franklin for at least 5-6 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Jimmy Rollins in a game against Boston. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Franklin was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Bone Chips Elbow. Wayne has a record of 1-0 this season, with an ERA of 3.44. In 52.1 Innings he was able to strike out 37 batters.
Monday 7/11/2006: Player of the Week honors go to Gonzalez and Martinez
Alex S. Gonzalez from Kansas City wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Alex S. was on fire, hitting .579 with 2 HR and 8 RBI. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Los Angeles (N)'s Pedro Martinez this time, as the pitcher displayed the best pitching perfomance in his league. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 1.04 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well.
Sunday 7/10/2006: Washington's Vladimir Guerrero has great day with five hits
CINCINNATI - Vladimir Guerrero hits 'em where they ain't. Cincinnati certainly agrees as Washington's rightfielder unloaded five hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. His 2nd hit, a three-run homerun off Terry Adams in the 4th inning, cleared the fence in left-center. A 445 foot drive to left-center marked his 5th hit, a two-run homerun off Brandon League in the 8th inning. He collected singles in the 4th , in the 6th inning and in the 7th inning (one RBI). Vladimir did drive in 6 while scoring 6 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 97 hits in 312 at bats, resulting in a .311 batting average. Washington improved its record to 45-42, scoring 32 runs on 29 hits.
Sunday 7/10/2006: Jose Guillen out for 6 weeks
HOUSTON - Being hit with a pitch is no fun at all. Especially when you get injured. Houston's rightfielder Jose Guillen will miss about 6 weeks after being hit by Joe Kennedy in the 8th inning of the game between Houston and Colorado. After being taken to a local hospital, Guillen was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Fractured Wrist. His season numbers are: .267 AVG, 80 hits, 13 doubles, no triples and 7 longballs, along with 38 RBI and 34 runs scored.
Saturday 7/9/2006: Chicago (A)'s Roberto Alomar mashes five hits
CHICAGO (A) - Roberto Alomar is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. His 1st hit was a double off Victor Alvarez in the 1st inning. His 4th hit was a double off Rafael Betancourt in the 10th inning. In the 11th inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Keith Foulke. His final hit proved to be the game winner as well! He collected singles in the 3rd (one RBI) and in the 4th (one RBI). Roberto did drive in 4 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He is hitting .278 this season, with 9 HR and 39 RBI. Chicago (A) improved its record to 46-40, scoring 14 runs on 23 hits.
Friday 7/8/2006: Alfonso Soriano uncorks five hits against Tampa Bay
BALTIMORE - Alfonso Soriano punished Tampa Bay's pitching today, collecting five hits in 5 AB. That definitely helped Baltimore, they won the game 12 to 6. A RBI double off Jose Lima in the 1st inning accounted for his 1st hit. It tied the ballgame at 1. In the 4th inning he belted a RBI double off Jose Lima. His 4th hit, off Mitch Stetter in the 6th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in left field. He collected singles in the 2nd (one RBI) and in the 7th (one RBI). Alfonso scored 2 runs, and he collected 5 RBI as well! This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 109 hits in 334 at bats, resulting in a .326 batting average.

SAN DIEGO - Los Angeles (N)'s right-hander Pedro Martinez is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking San Diego on just 2 hits. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 27th time he has done it in his career. Martinez (11-1) struck out 9 and issued 1 BB, throwing 76 of 128 pitches for strikes. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Shane Andrews helped Martinez at the plate, he went 1 for 3, blasting a homerun, and driving in 3 runs. Los Angeles (N) improved its record to 48-34, scoring 4 runs on 6 hits.
