Braves 7/4
Well how bout this for trivia, this is only the second time since 1988 that neither Smoltz nor Maddux will be in the All star game. The other time was 2001, when Smoltz went 24-2 and won the Cy Yong, but because of an injury early ion the season was left out of the game.
Instead the Braves had two new faces, and a repeat:
P Bud Smith
P Scott Strickland
P Jose Valverde
Going into the game to close out June, the Braves were abysmal against good teams. Going two and five against the Cards, Pittsburgh, Houston and Arizona. If the Braves come up short on the post season this year, the week going into the All Star game will be the point we could say, the final nail was driven. Having both Smoltz and Maddux out just was too much for Smith and Rupe to overcome.
We will see how the respond next week to Maddux being back.
