Braves 7/27
The end of an era is coming to Atlanta, Skipper has announced his retirement. He came to Atlanta in 1977 and since then they have only missed the post season twice. It looks like they are on a trajectory to do it a third time this year.
The Phillies look to be poised to do something no other East team could do since 85 when the Braves tanked to gain the rights to John Smoltz and actually win the East. Numerous teams tried to unseat them, including the Marlins that burned through a crap ton of youngsters to no avail.
In the previous 29 seasons in Atlanta the Braves won the East 27 times, and got to drink the champagne to end the season five times. Never before, and probably never again, in 29 consecutive seasons a team won over 3000 games (3086 to be exact) regular season games.
Of particular pride to Skip was some of the teams that started to emulate the simple premise he laid out in the late 70’s. He is also fond of creating the environment that allowed 7 different pitchers to win Cy Youngs as a Brave.
