Phillies August Report
Record: 21-8
Home: 8-5
Road: 13-3
Positive Team Stat: OPP AVG–.230 (4th)
Notes: Whenever you can limit hits to an elite level, man that makes life so much easier. Our Phillies pitching certainly is one of the best at doing that. With a rotation of Ben Sheets, Cole Hamels, John Thomson, and Chris R. Young you can see why.
Negative Team Stat: Batting Average–.268 (16th)
Notes: Hate to keep harping on this, but this offense needs to hit the ball at a better clip. As good as we are at limiting hits, we don’t get as many as you’d like. We make the most of them, but need to be better there. At least we walk at an elite level as a team.
Major League Spotlight
Best Hitter: 2B Chase Utley
August Stats: .299/.395/.570/.965 OPS 8 2Bs 0 3Bs 7 HRs 15 RBIs 23 Runs 14 BBs 8 Ks
Notes: Since moving to leadoff, Chase Utley has now gotten our hitter of the month in consecutive months. He has been a massive reason why the offense has gotten to a higher level. Absolute stud.
Best Pitcher: SP Chris R. Young
August Stats: 6 Starts 4-0 1.79 ERA 45.1 IP 23 Hs 9 ERs 17 BBs 22 Ks
Notes: Has Chris R. Young finally figured it out? If he did, look out! He is a guy that could really take this Phillies squad to an even higher level. The rotation was always great, but if he has truly emerged as ace material, then sheesh.
Minor League Spotlight
Prospect: CF Chris Young (A)
Notes: This has to go to Chris Young who has really put on the best show down at the farm. Will he ever materialize at the major league level? Most scouts don’t think so. Let’s just enjoy his numbers which were basically 41 2Bs, 40 HRs, 123 RBIs, 125 Runs, 97 BBs, and 40 SBs. Absolutely insane season at Single A.
