Phillies September Report
Record: 16-12
Home: 7-7
Road: 9-5
Positive Team Stat: Steals–378 (1st)
Notes: This team as far as most know has broken the team stolen base record. Absolutely relentless season from our boys on the basepaths. Utley led the way with 75 stolen bases, followed by Rolen’s 67, and Curtis Granderson’s 59. DeShields and Kemp barely missed 50.
Negative Team Stat: Batting Average–.268 (18th)
Notes: Can’t harp on this enough, but I’m really worried about this one. As well rounded as we are, this ultimately could be our downfall. If our bats can get hot at the right time, I love our chances, but if they don’t, then it will not bode well despite our ELITE SP.
Major League Spotlight
Best Hitter: 3B Scott Rolen
September Stats: .363/.427/.627/1.055 OPS 10 2Bs 1 3Bs 5 HRs 28 RBIs 20 Runs 10 BBs 19 Ks
Notes: Rolen had a fantastic month as he was a huge reason our September wasn’t even worse. He had struggled at times mightily at the plate, but the 2nd half it seemed like he had gotten going the moment he had signed his contract extension. 16 extra base hits with 28 RBIs and 20 runs is a heck of a month.
Best Pitcher: SP Ben Sheets
September Stats: 6 Starts 5-0 1.09 ERA 49.2 IP 29 Hs 6 ERs 6 BBs 46 Ks
Notes: Ben Sheets who was literally unbelievable the entire season finished it off with his best month yet. Truly dominant and hopefully this will cap off his first Cy Young award. What a damn pitcher!
Minor League Spotlight
Prospect: SP Nick Adenhart (AA)
Notes: I wanted to highlight Nick Adenhart despite the poor numbers thus far. We’ve been progressing him as quickly and smartly as possible. Adenhart has been highly praised due to his incredible stuff. Scouts think that next year he will start to put it together and look like a true blue chip prospect.
