The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Kansas City's Richard Hidalgo this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He had an on base percentage of .667 and hit .588, while driving in 9 runs. It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Florida's first baseman Kevin Youkilis. Kevin went 11 for 23 (.478), while hitting 2 HR and collecting 9 RBI.
Sunday 4/17/2007: Huge blow for San Francisco's Lima, career over
SAN FRANCISCO - It was one of baseball saddest days. San Francisco's right-hander Jose Lima fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against Arizona on Sunday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to Placido Polanco, then suddenly collapsed. San Francisco wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Lima had suffered a Torn Rotator Cuff Muscle. In 3 starts this year Jose struck out 12 batters in 14.1 innings of work. His ERA is 7.54, his record 1-1. His career featured a record of 108-99 with an ERA of 4.47. Baseball will certainly miss this great player.
Friday 4/15/2007: Arizona's Prince Fielder has great day, hits three longballs
CHICAGO (N) - Arizona's first baseman Prince Fielder flexed his muscles and displayed his tremendous power, homering three times in a 7-2 win over Chicago (N). A 445 foot drive to right-center marked his 1st bomb, a solo homerun off Colby Lewis in the 1st inning. His 2nd blast, a solo homerun off Colby Lewis in the 3rd inning, landed an estimated 387 feet from home plate. A pitch from Colby Lewis in the 5th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 423 feet from home plate in right-center. Prince finished with 3 hits in 5 AB, with three runs scored and collecting 3 RBI. Arizona scored 7 runs on 12 hits.
Thursday 4/14/2007: Carlos Pena (ARZ) will miss full season
ARIZONA - Arizona's first baseman Carlos Pena will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Arizona and Chicago (N). The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Pena collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament which will require surgery. LOS ANGELES (A) - Seattle's players had every reason to congratulate Tom Gordon, who reached a milestone today, winning his 300th game! Gordon went 5 innings. He allowed 3 earned runs , giving up 7 hits while striking out 4 and walking 3 earned runs. His career features a 2.61 ERA, along with 3863 K's in 3693 innings. 'My firends always told me that I will do it one day. I never believed it. Good that I was wrong!' He set a career high with 22 wins in 2001. Gordon won 20 or more games a season 6 times. SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's bats were sleeping, and St. Louis' Jason Schmidt gave them no chance to wake up. He gave up just 2 hits in recording his 1st shutout of the season. Schmidt (1-0) struck out an astounding 15 and walked 2, throwing 73 of 121 pitches for strikes. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches.' Morgan Ensberg helped Schmidt at the plate, he finished 3 for 5, hitting a double, and driving in 2 runs. St. Louis scored 5 runs on 13 hits.

DETROIT - Good things can happen when you throw strikes. And Brad Radke did so today, in a 2-hit shutout against Detroit. Russell Branyan spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he singled with no outs in the 7th inning. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Radke (1-0) fanned 1 and walked none, throwing 102 pitches. SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's bats were sleeping, and St. Louis' Jason Schmidt gave them no chance to wake up. He gave up just 2 hits in recording his 1st shutout of the season. Schmidt (1-0) struck out an astounding 15 and walked 2, throwing 73 of 121 pitches for strikes. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches.' Morgan Ensberg helped Schmidt at the plate, he finished 3 for 5, hitting a double, and driving in 2 runs. St. Louis scored 5 runs on 13 hits.
Wednesday 4/6/2007: Brad Radke turns in great performance against Detroit
DETROIT - Good things can happen when you throw strikes. And Brad Radke did so today, in a 2-hit shutout against Detroit. Russell Branyan spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he singled with no outs in the 7th inning. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Radke (1-0) fanned 1 and walked none, throwing 102 pitches. Manny Ramirez helped Radke at the plate, he went 2 for 5, homering once, stroking a double, scoring two runs and driving in 3 runs. Minnesota scored 8 runs on 11 hits.
