I know it hasn't been as long since I wrote about the AL base stealers, but I was a sim late for that one, this "early" edition will make it easier to compare the leagues. Also, it isn't lost on me that the 6 readers of the last AL report have to be chomping at the bit to get an update, because the stolen base competition is superior. However, it brings to mind an old adage, about a bear in the woods. Without further ado, here is your May Need For Speed Report, AL.
As I expected, the karma has kicked in and forcing me to type that the entire SB leaderboard for the AL would at worst be tied for the lead in the NL. While Encarnacion may do something about that in the future, right now the numbers are tacky. There are no new comers to the list this month but it has a new order as Becker and Holliday pass Jeter to share the lead.
Chasing Chipper's 112
Holliday and Becker are averaging a stolen base during 70.5% of games. This puts them both on pace for 113, setting a new AL record, and a new ML record.
Jeter and Pedroia are both 1 base back of the AL and league lead which translates to 1 base in 67.6% of their games so far. If we project that out for the season they would have 109 stolen bases in 162 games.... just short of the record.
1 M. Holliday (SEA) 24
1 R. Becker (SEA) 24
3 D. Jeter (MIN) 23
3 D. Pedroia (BOS) 23
5 L. Castillo (DET) 21
6 J. Rollins (BOS) 20
7 J. Pierre (CHA) 19
8 C. Jones (DET) 18
8 A. Rodriguez (NYA) 18
8 C. Crisp (KCR) 18
