Once again the Astros are facing a big NL West Series followed by a big inter division three game series. The Astros will return home from SF on Sunday evening and get ready to host the Cubbies starting Monday 5/23 for Bat Night. The team is giving away any bat that has been game used this year and they are starting with fresh Louisville Sluggers against the Cubs. This may be the most superstitious giveaway in club history, but the goat cursed Cubs shouldn't see anything wrong with it. Here are your probable starting pitching matchups for the series:
5/23 Bronson Arroyo vs Jeff Weaver
5/24 Cliff Lee vs Jeff Austin
5/25 Derek Lowe vs Colby Lewis
Someone is going to have to step up against one of the Jeffs if the Astros are going to win this series. Jeff Weaver is #2 in the NL in ERA and Jeff Austin isn't far behind him. Ff the Astros can take it to a game 3 rubber match, it appears they have the better pitching matchup. The Astros have been able to survive thus far, hanging around. As hard as it has been to gain games in the Central, this series becomes a crucial point. Once again the Astros are being asked to prove that they are contenders. Biased prediction: Astros drop game 1 but win 2 and 3, if they remember how to win a series in Pittsburgh.
