After one more game against the Reds, the Astros head to the City of Brotherly Love for a 3 game weekend series. The Phillies will be looking to bounce back after a tough May that saw them losing 10 of the last 12 game of the month, and find themselves on a three game losing streak and 10 games back of division leader Atlanta. This series will be a good determiner if the Astros have come out of the funk that they were in for most of May. When the 2 teams met in Philadelphia in April, the Astros won 2/3.
6/3 Probable Pitchers: RHP Bronson Arroyo (6-4, 3.68) vs. RHP Ben Sheets (6-4, 2.86)
Philadelphia has struggled at home this year, with a home record of only 12-17, while the Astros have 12 road wins in 13 attempts. While Philly may appear to have the pitching advantage on paper, we think that Philadelphia is going through something now and Arroyo can grab a win to start the weekend off right.
6/4 Probable Pitchers: LHP Cliff Lee (3-5,4.35) vs. LHP Cole Hammels (4-4, 3.95)
When Lee faced off with Philadelphia in April he gave up 3 runs but the bats showed up for him for one of their rare early season appearances and the Astros were able to win 7-3. We think a similar outcome is likely
6/5 Probably Pitcher: RHP Derek Lowe (4-5, 4.55) vs. RHP Chris Young (5-4, 3.91)
Philly will face Derek Lowe this time instead of Francisco Cordova. Lowe looks to steady the ship as he has had 1 bad appearance and 1 good appearance recently.
While it looks like the Phillies have the edge here, in their own words, "Everyone is under performing." We hope the championship hangover can carry through the next weekend, at least.
Biased Prediction: Phillies woes continue, Astros sweep.
