Willie Taveras made a statement with his feet in June to claim the #1 spot by 4 stolen bases. Last month's leader, Matt Holiday seems to have developed jelly legs slowing down to 11 stolen bases in June, not even close to Taveras' 24. Jeter and Rollins both took advantage of Holliday and Chipper slowing down during the last month but Willie kept them from making a run at the top of the leaderboard.
Holliday and Chipper have fallen off the league leading pace but we definitely wouldn't be surprised to see them make a run to get back into the leader conversation. Juane Pieer and Castillo are hanging around but if you fall more than 10 bases back in this race, you are on the hotseat during the next month and at risk of falling out of the conversation all together. Pedroia, Crisp and Becker will be ones to watch to watch in July. Can they kick it into gear to move up the leaderboard as the second half starts or will Taveras, Jeter, Rollins, Holliday, Jones, and Pierre distance themselves from the pack?
Chasing Chipper's 112
At the halfway point Taveras definitely has made the conversation interesting. He is on pace for 112, at the break, but give the man a few days off, and it will be interesting to see if he can keep up the pace or wilt in the dog days of summer. Jeter and Rollins are both on pace to hit 100+ and it wouldn't take much to get them on the pace to catch Chipper's record.
