Derek Lowe got the win in the second game of the Padres series to get the sim started on a positive note. Brian Anderson got the series win for the Astros with an 8 inning, 2 run performance and overcame an anemic 5 hit, 7 baserunners performance by the offense.
Things continued to go ok in Chicago. Game 1 at Wrigley ended up being a disastrous night for Bronson Arroyo. He got tagged for 3 runs in the first and was lifted after the 3rd. He wasn't helped by another 6 hit night by the offense. The bats showed up in force for game 2. Dontrelle Willis did not bring his A game and gave up 8 runs but the Astros were able to steal game 2 with a 4 run 6th inning and Isringhausen and Frasor were able to bail out the pitching staff after the 10 runs given up between Willis and Hill. Cliff Lee got the series win for the Astros in Game 3 as the offense scored 10 runs for the second consecutive game. What is this sorcery?
The Astros seemed to be jet lagged after not leaving the Central Time Zone, leaving all of the runs in Chicago. The Diamondbacks scored 5 runs on 3 hits. The Astros were only able to scrape acrossed 1 run on 4 hits. Just when things were looking like they were trending in th right direction. offensively. Arizona won another convincing game 7-2 to take the first two games of the series holding the Astros to another 4 hits. In game 3 the Astros were able to get 10 hits but only were able to score 4 runs. 4 runs isn't a terrible night but when you couple it with 3 errors, it spelled disaster. Once again Arizona scored more runs than they got hits. Winning 7-4 and sweeping the 3 game series.
Hopefully, this D-back series becomes a distant memory quickly as the Astros and the Cardinals open a weekend series and then the Astros head to Pittsburgh. This is a crucial stretch of games if the Astros want to remain in the same picture frame as the division leaders.
