Monday 8/8/2007: Colorado's Lee wins Player of the Week award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Adrian Beltre, Seattle's starting third baseman. Adrian was on fire, hitting .444 with 4 HR and 7 RBI. He now has homered in 4 consecutive games as well! His season numbers are: .323 AVG, 140 hits, 22 doubles, no triples and 17 longballs, along with 61 RBI and 74 runs scored. It's the 7th time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Colorado's leftfielder Carlos Lee. He hit .400 with 10 RBI and slugged .960 in 25 at bats. Carlos has gone 86 for 323 (.266) this season, hitting 18 bombs and driving in 58 runs. He has scored 52 runs on his own.
Saturday 8/6/2007: Cincinnati's Johnson severely injured
CINCINNATI - When it rains, it pours. Cincinnati's ace Jason Johnson will not pitch for at least 4 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against New York (N) where he left the field in the 3rd inning. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Strained Bicep Muscle which will require surgery. This season Johnson compiled an ERA of 4.97, going 3-14 in 25 starts. He fanned 130 while giving up 144 hits in 128.2 innings.
Tuesday 8/2/2007: Cliff P. Lee out for 6-7 weeks
HOUSTON - Houston is without its ace Cliff P. Lee for at least 6-7 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to David Wright in a game against Milwaukee. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Houston wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Lee had suffered a Torn Bicep Muscle. This season Lee compiled an ERA of 4.14, going 8-10 in 21 starts. He fanned 98 while giving up 180 hits in 152 innings. He has 4 complete games and one shutout.

ST. LOUIS - St. Louis is without its right-hander Michael Wuertz for at least 4-5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Mark DeRosa in a game against San Francisco. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Wuertz was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Herniated Disc Back. Michael has a record of 1-4 this season, with an ERA of 3.77. In 31 Innings he was able to strike out 29 batters.

NEW YORK (A) - Texas' catcher Matt Walbeck joined some elite company today, collecting his 2000th career hit! He hit a single in the 7th off Devern Hansack for number 2000. In 14 years of big league action so far, Matt has compiled a batting average of .297, along with 108 homeruns and 874 RBI. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.'
Monday 8/1/2007: Cabrera and White win Player of the Week award
Detroit's first baseman Miguel Cabrera had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Miguel pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .409 with 3 HR and 12 RBI while slugging 1.000. His season features a batting average of .366 (145 hits in 396 AB), 38 doubles, one triple and 23 taters. Cabrera collected 109 RBI and 77 runs as well. He's 1st in the American League in batting, 8th in homeruns and 1st in RBI! Rondell White from San Francisco wins his 7th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. White helped his team with an average of .452 and 7 RBI in 31 at bats. Rondell managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. White has hit 21 homeruns this year while batting .294. He adds 27 doubles, along with 75 runs scored.
Monday 8/1/2007: Wood (BAL) and Escobar (SFG) win monthly pitcher award
Kerry Wood couldn't have pitched much better than he did in July, and the American League thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. He struck out 28 hitters in his 4 starts, putting together a record of 2-0 while pitching 28 innings. His ERA in July was 0.88. His ERA of 2.13 helped him to a 8-4 record this year. He struck out 124 and walked 17 in 135.1 innings. Kerry has pitched one shutout and 2 complete games. The best month of July in the National League certainly had San Francisco's right-hander Kelvim Escobar, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award.
