The Astros quest to improve over last season i under .500 looks like it has solid potential. Over the last 10 the Astros have gone 6-4 to give their revamped season goal a fighting chance. The squad heads to the end of August 6 games over .500. On 8/9 Miguel Tejada broke his hand is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Bronson Arroyo got the sim going with an 8 inning, 2 ER, 9 K performance and Frasor picked up his 36th save in his first lame duck appearance as an Astro. The Astros reached a deal with the Pirates to send Frasor and Isringhausen as a tandem to Pittsburgh. Fans are hoping to see a Halloween themed Jasons introduction. The Astros couldn't pass the deal up which has them adding a 21 yo Mark Trumbo to the middle of the Children of Tomorrow lineup, along with a current top 10 draft pick. Marcus Jones got tagged for 4 runs over 4 2/3rds and the Astros take the Dodger's bullpen game from them to tie the series at 1-1. As you recall, the Dodgers took game 1 of the series on 8/15
The Astros were able to get score a 4 spot in the 4th off of a Joe Hietpas grand slam in the 4th inning and it held up as Jason Frasor got his second save in 2 games for #37 on the year. The Astros took the series 2-1 with Dontrelle Willis picking up his 5th win after going 5 innings and giving up. Hill walked 3 while struggling to get 4 outs but didn't allow any runs as he handed the game over to Frasor. The Astros take the series 2-1.
Of course, as it has been all year, as soon as we get on a roll the Giants or DBacks show up on the schedule. Sure enough, right on schedule the Giants showed up in Houston. The Astros were leading game 1 6-3 in the 6th before the bullpen which has been the backbone of this 2007 Astro team, took the night off. Lilly went 5.1 giving up 3. The Astros scored once in the 4th, 4 runs in the 5th and added 1 in the 6th to have what looked to be a convincing lead. However, Frasor was unavailable after having thrown 2 nights in a row against the Dodgers. Moylan Got them Through the 6th and 7th. Villareal came in for the 8th but the rookie could only get one out while giving up a run before turning it over to Izzy. Isringhuausen went 2 full innings but surrendered the lead giving up 2 runs on 4 hits. In the 11th the Giants got to Hill for 2 runs and Crudale picked up his 3rd save of the year to seal game 1 for the Giants.
The Giants jumped on Derek Lowe for a run in the 1st and that was all they needed as Chad Billingsley pitched a 4 hit complete game shutout. He struck out 9 and the Astros didn't stand a chance as the Giant bats added 8 more runs to route the Astros 9-0 and earn the quick 2 game sweep.
Talking about coming really really close to Brian Anderson earning his extension in game 1 against the Reds. I have told myself if he throws a no hitter then he gets his 10 mil extension. He put up a 1 hit complete game shutout. He walked 3 and struck out 5. The Houston bats were quieted by Asencio but Nieves's 6th inning solo shot got Brian Anderson his 9th win of the season to improve his record to 9-8. The Astros win 1-0 to take a 1-0 lead in the August series.

Frasor picked up his 38th save of the season Chavez hit his 18th HR off of Matsuzaka in the 6th to get the late inning comeback going for the Astros. Nieves and Hietpas secured the comeback win with clutch RBIs in the 8th.
Houston finished off the 3 game sweep with a convincing 12-4 win. The Astros scored 12 runs on 16 hits while the Reds could only scratch over 4 runs on 12 hits. Every Astro in the starting lineup had at least 2 hits except for SS Omar Infante (1-4) and Pat Burrell (0-6). Castillo, Guillen, and Butler each hit HRs, but Jose Guillen hit the second grand slam of the sim. Once again we find ourselves hoping that the hitting rolls into the next series.
The Astros look to continue their winning ways against Washington (2 games) , Atlanta (3 games), and SD (2) before an off day on September 1st.
