Thursday 9/1/2007: Estes (OAK) and Sheets (PHI) win monthly pitcher award
Shawn Estes couldn't have pitched much better than he did in August, and the American League thought so as well, naming the southpaw Pitcher of the Month. He went 4-0 in August and finished the month with an ERA of 0.00. He struck out 21 in 32.2 innings. His ERA of 3.99 helped him to a 8-8 record this year. He struck out 89 and walked 30 in 144.1 innings. Ben Sheets pitched like a legend in August, and the National League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. His record of 6-1 in 7 was among the leagues best this month. In 55.2 innings of work he allowed just 36 hits while striking out 54, compiling an ERA of just 0.97. Ben pitched a shutout as well. Thursday 9/1/2007: Red hot Encarnacion and Wells win Batter of the Month award
It's the 3rd time that the American League Batter of the Month award goes to Baltimore's shortstop Edwin Encarnacion. In 100 at bats he hit .380 with 14 HR and 30 RBI. Edwin is hitting .333 this year, with 165 hits in 495 at bats. He has driven in 110 runs, slugging .588. He's 5th in the American League in batting, 3rd in homeruns and 5th in RBI! Vernon Wells of Arizona wins his 1st Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the National League. Vernon went 30 for 98 (.306), while hitting 9 HR and collecting 33 RBI. His season features a batting average of .221 (110 hits in 497 AB), 27 doubles, 4 triples and 26 longballs. Wells collected 110 RBI and 84 runs as well. He's 2nd in the National League in RBIs and 9th in homeruns!
Wednesday 8/31/2007: Los Angeles (N)'s Condrey out for 7 weeks
LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s right-hander Clay Condrey suffered a severe injury on Wednesday and will be out for at least 7 weeks. In the 4th of the game against Milwaukee he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Ruptured Tricep Tendon was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Opposing players hit .316 against Clay this season. While posting an ERA of 4.71 he went 10-6 in 25 starts, fanning 95 and walking 30 hitters.
Monday 8/29/2007: Burnitz and Easley win Player of the Week award
Jeromy Burnitz from Baltimore wins his 6th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Burnitz helped his team with an average of .600 and 8 RBI in 20 at bats. His season features a batting average of .309 (132 hits in 427 AB), 26 doubles, no triples and 13 homeruns. Burnitz collected 54 RBI and 60 runs as well. Damion Easley from San Francisco wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Thursday 8/25/2007: New York (N)'s Felipe Lopez has great day, hits three longballs
MILWAUKEE - New York (N)'s shortstop Felipe Lopez flexed his muscles and displayed his tremendous power, homering three times in a 22-4 win over Milwaukee. A 417 foot drive to right field marked his 1st bomb, a solo homerun off Ubaldo Jimenez in the 3rd inning. It tied the ballgame at 1. His 2nd shot, off Juan Alvarez in the 6th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in left field. His 3rd blast, a solo homerun off Armando Almanza in the 7th inning, landed an estimated 455 feet from home plate. Overall he stroked 4 hits in 7 AB, with FOUR runs scored and driving in 3 runs. On 8/22/2007, Chipper Jones was the last player to hit 3 dingers in a single game. The final score of the game was 22-4.

BALTIMORE - Baltimore's season has taken a hit after one of their best players, leftfielder Carl Crawford, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 5 weeks. SEATTLE - Seattle's right-hander Tom Gordon will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Baltimore on Wednesday. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Torn Bicep Muscle which will require surgery. In 26 starts this year Tom struck out 130 batters in 152 innings of work. His ERA is 4.97, his record 8-7.
