September brings us an absolutely amazing 3 man SB title race in the AL. Jeter is holding a 1 base lead after 134 games over Rollins and Taveras is 1 base back of Rollins. Rollings and Taveras flip the 2 and 3 spots on the list this month. Jones and Holliday have fallen to 4-5 as it seems they ran their wheels off too early and have all but fallen out of contention for the title. Castillo and Pierre were tied last month, heading into September, Castillo breaks the tie by 1 and Pedroia closed the 4 base lead that Pierre had to move into a tie at 7th. Furcal and Crisp remain tied for 9th at the bottom of the list, matching each other's 9 stolen bases last month, base for base.
Chasing Chipper's 112
The pace has slowed slightly as maybe the heat of August slowed down the running game? Jeter is stealing at a clip of 64% putting him on track for 103 or 104. Obviously, Rollins is going to be slightly behind that and Taveras slightly lower than that. Gentlemen, let's give them each a month long green light that never changes, and let's see someone chase down Chipper. If one of them can get to 100 by the middle of September, I think they have a fighting chance to break the record. With 28 games left in the season Jeter needs a stolen base in 27 of the 28 games to break the record. Good luck!
