Thursday 9/15/2007: Kelvim Escobar pitches his 3rd shutout of the season
ST. LOUIS - Kelvim Escobar had some fun again. St. Louis hitters did not. San Francisco's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 3rd shutout of the season. He now has 3 career shutouts in 184 games started. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Escobar (19-8) fanned 9 and walked 2, throwing 110 pitches. San Francisco's second baseman Damion Easley finished 3 for 5, going deep twice, scoring three times with 4 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Escobar. San Francisco scored 11 runs on 14 hits.
Thursday 9/15/2007: Jim Thome (SFG) will miss 6-7 weeks
SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's first baseman Jim Thome will miss at least 6-7 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Broken Foot. His season features a batting average of .294 (159 hits in 541 AB), 40 doubles, 2 triples and 36 taters. Thome collected 105 RBI and 104 runs as well. He's 5th in the National League in RBIs and 1st in homeruns!
Monday 9/12/2007: Milt Cuyler stars with 2000th career hit
FLORIDA - Pittsburgh's centerfielder Milt Cuyler was in good mood after the game against Florida, and he had every reason as he made some history while collecting his 2000th career hit. In 12 years of big league action so far, Milt has compiled a batting average of .302, along with 28 homeruns and 771 RBI. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.' His hit in the 9th inning was a double off Dave Maurer.
Monday 9/12/2007: Boston's Johnny Damon slams five hits
LOS ANGELES (A) - 'Wow, five hits in one game is something special, isn't it?' said Boston's rightfielder Johnny Damon after the 6-5 win over Los Angeles (A). A pitch from Rick White in the 3rd inning left his bat for a RBI double. Number 4 in the 8th inning, a shot estimated at 356 feet, cleared the wall in right field. The game was tied, 4-4, after the blast. A double off James Baldwin in the 12th inning accounted for his 5th hit. He collected singles in the 1st inning and in the 6th . Johnny did drive in 2 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He is hitting .281 this season, with 31 HR and 127 RBI.

Willie Greene from Kansas City wins his 8th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Greene helped his team with an average of .417 and 8 RBI in 24 at bats. His season numbers are: .323 AVG, 161 hits, 32 doubles, 3 triples and 33 longballs, along with 101 RBI and 114 runs scored. The National League's best player of the week was Cincinnati's Shawn Green, who wins the award for the 7th time in his career. Green helped his team with an average of .368 and 14 RBI in 19 at bats. His season numbers are: .245 AVG, 125 hits, 34 doubles, 2 triples and 25 bombs, along with 101 RBI and 68 runs scored.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's right-hander Chris R. Young suffered a severe injury on Saturday and will be out for at least 8 weeks. In the 3rd of the game against San Diego he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Torn Tricep Muscle which will require surgery. Chris R. has a record of 13-9 this season, with an ERA of 2.98. In 208.1 Innings he was able to strike out 167 batters.

OAKLAND - Oakland's shortstop Freddy Sanchez suffered a serious injury when he was struck by a pitch from Minnesota's Robb Nen. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Sanchez will probaby miss 8-9 weeks. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Broken Cheekbone which will require surgery. His season numbers are: .309 AVG, 145 hits, 28 doubles, one triple and 14 homeruns, along with 76 RBI and 62 runs scored.

LOS ANGELES (A) - Los Angeles (A)'s second baseman Garrett Atkins hurt himself in the 1st inning while making a routine throw to first base. He experienced serious pain and had to leave the game. Garrett Atkins will miss at least 5 weeks. Pulled Bicep Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. His season features a batting average of .232 (128 hits in 552 AB), 27 doubles, 2 triples and 12 bombs. Atkins collected 65 RBI and 52 runs as well.
