Phillies 2007 September/October Report
Record: 18-10 Home: 9-5 Road: 9-5
Positive Team Stat: ERA–2.88 (2nd) Notes: Only team better than us was of course those Atlanta Braves who were in the same division as us. Listen, our pitching was fantastic. It’ll be great again next year. Hopefully we have better luck next year. Negative Team Stat: Batting Avg–.261 (18th) Notes: This was low-key an issue last year, but we hit enough home runs and walked enough as well as stole a record amount of times. This year we didn’t have that same effect, and so it cost us. It’s a shame because the talent is there, but it’s on me to address this issue next year.
Major League Spotlight
Best Hitter: 3B Scott Rolen Stats: .347/.443/.531/.974 OPS 9 2Bs 0 3Bs 3 HRs 14 RBIs 17 Runs 16 BBs 26 Ks Notes: Scott Rolen really was awesome during the 2nd half of the season. He might just be our leadoff guy moving forward. He played terrific defense, provides some pop, gets on base, and steals a ton of bases. A true 5-tool type of player.
Best Pitcher: SP John Thomson Stats: 7 Starts 3-3 1.89 ERA 47.2 IP 43 Hs 10 ERs 12 BBs 58 Ks Notes: I mean it’s kinda funny that he couldn’t even go over .500 record-wise, but that’s kind of been the story of our season…not enough run support. Anyway, Thomson was fantastic this year, and really was our 2nd best pitcher this season. We are looking forward to him having another really great year next season.
Minor League Spotlight
Prospect: SP Nick Adenhart (AAA) Notes: He didn’t pitch particularly well down there, but all signs are pointing to elite stuff that will one day translate into an ace. Adenhart possesses a strong repertoire of 5 different pitches. We are excited about his future prospects.
