Braves October Part II
Next up was the fight against the Giants, that had picked off the Division leading DBack in the NLDS.
Game one featured Bud Smith going down and being lost for the remainder of the playoffs, and like Smith, the Braves went down, losing 5 – 3 digging an early 0 – 1 hole for the series.
Game two was a must in for the Braves lest they drop the first two at home, Rupe and Santana faced up and both surrendered 4 runs a piece allowing the game to go into extra innings where Valverde came on and won his 3rd game of the post season.
Game three the Braves traveled to SFRAN and Smoltz continued his dominance since September started and went 8 and 2/3 not allowing a run. Maddux came in to close out the game 5 – 3.
An injured Bud Smith pitched game four in SFran and still came away with the victory as the Braves cruised 7 – 2.
To close out the series, the Braves won 5 – 2 behind 8 innings by Rupe that only gave up 2.
