Braves October Part IV
So here we are at the pivotal game 5 of the series and the home team has won each game, could this be the game that the Braves take to finally give them the lead in the series?
The Answer is, No… Maddux gave up four in 9 innings losing again to Burnett. This put the Mariners in the driver seat with the series heading back to Seattle for the final two games.
Game six in Seattle, the Braves sent Rupe to the mound to hopefully stave off eliminations. Facing him was Hensley, and the Braves batters got to him early chasing him from the game in the 3rd inning, putting them up by 4 at that point. Rupe was on his game, and the Braves easily won 6 – 1 to tie up the series and force a game 7.
The issue with game seven is, who would pitch for the Braves. Smoltz is still injured and…
Come game day John looked at Skip and said “gimmie the ball” and the rest was history. John went out and pitched like the stud he has always been, injured or not. He held the Mariners offence to just a run, while the Brave racked up another 6 runs in support.
So down oh two the Braves rallied to win four of the next five games to bring Atlanta its sixth title. The grit and determination of John Smoltz we here in the press box makes him our MVP for the series. With the Win it give both John and Greg five rings each.
