20 games into the season, the Pirates have doubled their win total from the first 14 games and are on a 1 game winning streak. Don't call it a comeback! Seriously, don't. Let's see what happened.
4/18
Dreifort was called on for his 4th start of the season and is being considered for bullpen duty after being yanked in the 4th. Five ER and six runs later, forgetting that he was mic'd for the game the Pirate pitching coach headed out to the mound and was picked up saying, "He is a good pitcher, he is a good pitcher, give him time to adjust, he is a good pitcher. Trade for him they said, it will make life easier." Pittsburgh briefly had the lead in the 4th before giving it away in the bottom of the inning. Washington wins 7-5 and the Pirates start 0-1 on the sim.
4/19
Washington completes the sweep behind a complete game by Tim Hudson. Remember, if your bullpen needs a break, check for Pittsburgh on your schedule. Erstadt went 2-4 and got SB #9 as he remains tied with Podsednik at the top of the NL SB list. Nothing much to talk about in this one. Anderson was bad, the defense was bad and the offense was bad. Washington wins 7-2 and Pittsburgh fall to 0-2 for the sim.
4/20
A day off, be prepared for random drug testing by the league.
4/21
Hebson pitched into the 7th which is a positive sign these days. The bad news is he gave up 5 runs in the process and the offense could only get a single run off of a Tejada RBI in the 6th. Hietpas went 3-4 as the Pirates fall 5-1 and start the sim 0-3 and the season 1-16.
4/22
Pittsburgh should have taken the day off as this is 4/20 too. But they didn't. Dontrelle Willis gave up 5 and everyone knows the Pirates aren't scoring 5....The Marlins win 7-4 as the Pirates fall to 0-4 on the sim.
4/23
Franklyn Germany and the Pirates almost avoided the Fish Sweep. But, they didn't. The Marlins scored 9 and the Pirates actually scored more than 5, 8 to be exact, and fell short as the losing streak stretches to 6 and the Pirates drop to 1-18 for the year.
4/24
It took the final game of the series but the Pirates avoided another 3 game sweep. Surprisingly, it was the offense that showed up in support of Franklyn German. Erstadt went 3-6 with 2 SBs (11), an RBI, and a run scored. The Pirates continue the trend of 1 win per sim by flipping the score from the day before, winning 9-8 and finish the sim at 1-5 and 2-18 on the season.
