Normally, I wait for the morning that I am writing the report to check the stolen base standings but I couldn't wait last night. If you haven't seen what Jeter is doing in the AL, you need to watch. I texted the Twin's manager and he said, "We will see, if he can get to 42-43 at the end of May we are on to something. And 60 by the AS Break. Hmmmm." Let's take a look. Out of respect for what Jeter is doing, I am going to keep the AL write up first until he falls off the pace.
Jeter had 11 SB since the last time we wrote, which doesn't seem like much until you realize he has 23 SB through 27 games and the last article came only 2 sims ago. We are going to insert a special Quest for Chipper's record here just because the math is so wild right now.
Quest for Chipper's 2006 Record of 112
Jeter has been on fire through the first 27 games. He he is on pace to steal in 85 percent of his games or 137-138 SBs. The pace is insane but starting out this way he has left himself room for error as we get into the tired leg months. Castillo is Jeter's closest competitor and he is stealing at a 59% rate. At this juncture it looks like it is going to be a one horse race, if the horse can get to the finish line.
Castillo remains in second place, Reese is a newcomer to the list this month, for Seattle. Furcal fell of the list. Coco moved up from a tie for 4th into a tie for 3rd with Reese. SB record holder Chipper lurks in the middle of the pack with Taveras and Durham. Old Man Suzuki hangs around on the list at 8th while Rollins slips from 3rd after the first sim to tied for 9th with Damon who replaces Crawford on the list. It is tight from 2-10, to the point where any of them could disappear from the list next month, but all eyes are on Jeter. Can he stay healthy? Can he keep this insane pace as the days get hotter? Is Father Time the only one that can slow him down?
# TOP 10 SB SB

9 J. Damon (BOS) 12
In the NL things are a lot more tame. Scott Podsednik holds a 1 base lead over the rest of the NL as Erstad fell just off the pace and he comes in locked in 2nd place with Cedeno. Cedeno moved all the way up the list after being in 8th during the initial report. Weeks doubled his stolen base total from the last report and is hanging around just off the lead tied with Victorino and Wilson. Houston's Wilson is new to the NL list this week replacing SF's Angel Pagan. Sanchez fell from a 3rd place tie to a 9th plae tie as he only stole 3 bases since the initial report. Scott Rolen joins the list after a sluggish start, replacing SF's Upton. SF had a great first report but have fallen off the leaderboard pace. Let's see if Erstad can keep getting on base at the top of the Pittsburgh lineup or if he fades. I still like Weeks to come up the board as the days get hot.
