Monday 5/16/2008: Steve Cox drills 5 hits
WASHINGTON - On Monday, Colorado's first baseman Steve Cox displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against Washington, punishing their pitchers with five hits. A pitch from Anthony Reyes in the 2nd inning left his bat for a RBI double. His 2nd hit, a solo homerun off Anthony Reyes in the 4th inning, cleared the fence in right-center. A 342 foot drive to right field marked his 4th hit, a solo homerun off Brett Myers in the 6th inning. His 5th hit was a two-run double off Heath Bell in the 9th inning. He collected a single in the 5th. Steve scored 3 runs, and he collected 5 RBI as well! He is hitting .279 this season, with 10 HR and 29 RBI. The final score of the game was 16-9.
Monday 5/16/2008: Arizona's Pena wins Player of the Week award
Boston's third baseman Jose Fernandez had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. In 22 at bats he hit .455 with 5 HR and 12 RBI. Jose managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! Carlos Pena from Arizona wins his 4th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Pena helped his team with an average of .429 and 13 RBI in 21 at bats. Carlos is hitting .228 this year, with 29 hits in 127 at bats. He has driven in 27 runs, slugging .520.
