2008 marks the 100th birthday for Forbes Field. While it is a piece of history, Pitt has offered a lot of money for the land and the Pirates have promised that they will have a plan in place and opening day scheduled for Clemente Park within the next 5 years.
"We want to celebrate Forbes Field this year but we also want to look to a future where we skipped playing in Three River Stadium and have a beautiful ballpark by the rivers. We aren't going to take corporate dollars for naming rights, it will be Clemente Field ". Jamieson said in a written press release.
He continued, "Now is the time to start saving. We are saving money now to make the team better later. We believe in the next five years we can save up to half of the building cost and we will be able to finance the rest through the league."
"We believe that now is perfect as we look to a minor league system teaming with talent. When they are ready to compete, they will have a new friendly confines to call home."
He concluded, "This is not a formal announcement, only a promise to the people of Pittsburgh. When we have the money together, you will see the formal announcement."
