TAMPA BAY - Adrian Gonzalez beat Tampa Bay, but he did it without mercy, playing like a one man wrecking crew. Oakland's first baseman slugged three homeruns, once again proving that he is among the elite sluggers. In the 3rd inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Vin Mazzaro. His 2nd shot, a two-run homerun off Darren O'Day in the 5th inning, cleared the fence in right-center. A 426 foot drive to center field marked his 3rd bomb, a solo homerun off Darren O'Day in the 8th inning. Adrian went 5 for 6, doubling once, and driving in 6 runs. TAMPA BAY - On Wednesday, Oakland's shortstop Wilton Guerrero displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against Tampa Bay, punishing their pitchers with six hits. He had singles in the 4th (one RBI) , in the 7th , in the 8th , in the 8th inning , in the 9th (two RBIs) Wilton did drive in 3 while scoring 4 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .306. Oakland scored 32 runs on 27 hits.
Monday 6/6/2008: Mark Buehrle pitches 2-hit shutout against Tampa Bay
TAMPA BAY - Oakland's southpaw Mark Buehrle is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Tampa Bay on just 2 hits. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 7th time he has done it in his career. Buehrle (6-3) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 5. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' Nelson R. Cruz provided Oakland with the offense Buehrle needed as he finished 3 for 5, homering twice, scoring three times and collecting 8 RBI. The final score of the game was 16-0.
Monday 6/6/2008: Colorado's Vidro wins Player of the Week award
Adrian Beltre wins his 4th Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Beltre helped his team with an average of .433 and 17 RBI in 30 at bats. Adrian is hitting .361 this year, with 66 hits in 183 at bats. He has driven in 48 runs, slugging .645. He's 4th in the American League in batting, 5th in homeruns and 7th in RBI! Jose Vidro from Colorado wins his 7th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. He hit .542 with 7 RBI and slugged .833 in 24 at bats. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 8 games. While compiling an on base percentage of .403, Jose hit .314 and slugged .525. He has collected 41 runs batted in this year. SEATTLE - Hitting a homerun is fine, but hitting four of them in one game is something special. Seattle's third baseman Adrian Beltre accomplished that feat in a 24-1 win over Tampa Bay. Number 1 in the 1st inning, a shot estimated at 381 feet, cleared the wall in left field. His 2nd shot, off Darren O'Day in the 4th inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in left field. His 3rd shot, a solo homerun off Darren O'Day in the 7th inning, cleared the fence in left field. In the 8th inning he unloaded a three-run homerun off Darren O'Day. PHILADELPHIA - When it rains, it pours. Philadelphia's ace Ben Sheets will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Chicago (N) where he left the field in the 4th inning. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Strained Elbow Ligament. In 12 starts this year Ben struck out 104 batters in 96.1 innings of work. His ERA is 1.03, his record 10-1. He has 5 complete games and one shutout. He's 2nd in the National League in ERA and 2nd in wins!

TAMPA BAY - Tampa Bay's southpaw Erik Bedard suffered a severe injury on Friday and will be out for at least 8 weeks. In the 1st of the game against Seattle he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Herniated Disc Back. His ERA of 7.94 helped him to a 0-8 record this year. He struck out 54 and walked 27 in 45.1 innings.
Friday 6/3/2008: Carlos Zambrano pitches 2-hit shutout against Oakland
OAKLAND - Carlos Zambrano took the mound and never left. And Oakland hitters couldn't touch him at all. Boston's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 3rd shutout of the season. He now has 14 career shutouts in 133 games started. Zambrano (10-0) struck out 8 and issued 1 BB, throwing 70 of 115 pitches for strikes. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. Thursday 6/2/2008: New York (A)'s Munson severely injured
NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s catcher Eric Munson will miss about 4-5 weeks after being knocked unconscious in a collision at home plate, in the 2nd inning of the game between New York (A) and Baltimore. He was helped off the field after the incident. Munson will miss at least 4-5 weeks. New York (A) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Munson had suffered a Broken Ulna. His season numbers are: .260 AVG, 44 hits, 7 doubles, no triples and 4 bombs, along with 23 RBI and 23 runs scored.
Thursday 6/2/2008: Bronson Heflin (NYA) will miss 7 weeks
NEW YORK (A) - New York (A) is without its right-hander Bronson Heflin for at least 7 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Derrek Lee in a game against Baltimore. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Bicep Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. Opposing players hit .249 against Bronson this season. While posting an ERA of 3.75 he went 2-3 in 11 starts, fanning 36 and walking 23 hitters. Bronson has pitched one shutout and one complete game.
