It's the 2nd time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Los Angeles (A)'s shortstop Esteban German. Esteban was on fire, hitting .438 with 1 HR and 3 RBI. This year German drove in 45 and scored 49 runs while batting .280 with 11 taters. Jose Vidro wins his 8th Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. In 16 at bats he hit .500 with 2 HR and 6 RBI. Friday 7/1/2008: Buehrle (OAK) and Smith (OAK) win monthly pitcher award
Mark Buehrle pitched like a legend in June, and the American League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. He struck out 19 hitters in his 7 starts, putting together a record of 6-1 while pitching 19 innings. His ERA in June was 1.96. Mark fired two shutouts! His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Hitchcock was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Pulled Rotator Cuff Muscle. Opposing players hit .310 against Sterling this season. Tuesday 6/28/2008: Oakland's Bobby Abreu gets milestone hit
OAKLAND - Bobby Abreu got a standing ovation from 25491 fans in Oakland, who witnessed his 2000th career hit. He hit a three run homerun in the 1st off Carl Pavano for number 2000. His best year so far was 2005 where he hit .274 with 37 homeruns and 114 RBI. 'It's hard to believe that I did it. I want to thank my family, my friends and my teammates!'

Willie Greene wins his 10th Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. In 27 at bats he hit .407 with 2 HR and 9 RBI. Greene has hit for a .301 average this season. He has 34 extra base hits along with 152 total bases, resulting in a .531 slugging percentage. Chase Utley wins his 3rd Player of the Week award. Sunday 6/26/2008: Bud Smith shuts out Los Angeles (N) on one hit
ATLANTA - Great days are rare. But not for Atlanta's southpaw Bud Smith. Los Angeles (N) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 4th shutout this season, and the 15th time he has done it in his career. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' Smith (13-5) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 2, throwing 113 pitches. Atlanta's rightfielder Ryan Klesko got 3 hits in 5 AB, scoring twice and driving in 3 runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Smith. Atlanta improved its record to 50-27, scoring 12 runs on 19 hits.
Saturday 6/25/2008: Koyie Hill out for full season
LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s catcher Koyie Hill will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Los Angeles (N) and Atlanta. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Hill collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. Hill was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Ruptured Achilles Tendon. Hill has hit 2 longballs this year while batting .282. He adds 8 doubles, along with 24 runs scored.
Saturday 6/25/2008: Eric Gagne (OAK) will miss 6-7 weeks
OAKLAND - Oakland's right-hander Eric Gagne suffered a severe injury on Saturday and will be out for at least 6-7 weeks. In the 9th of the game against Texas he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Strained Elbow Ligament which will require surgery. This season Gagne compiled an ERA of 0.27, going 1-1 in 0 starts. He fanned 31 while giving up 15 hits in 33 innings.
Saturday 6/25/2008: Seattle's Beltre severely injured
SEATTLE - Boston's Carlos Zambrano drilled Seattle's third baseman Adrian Beltre in the 4th inning. He was slow getting up and had to leave the game. Adrian Beltre will miss at least 4-5 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Broken Hand. Surgery will be performed next week. His season features a batting average of .391 (97 hits in 248 AB), 16 doubles, 2 triples and 18 homeruns. Beltre collected 67 RBI and 40 runs as well. He's 2nd in the American League in batting, 4th in homeruns and 6th in RBI!
