Emails have been leaked that show that as late as last week, manager Joe Price was contacting minor league prospects to tell them to be more vocal about getting promoted.
The emails indicate that Price was afraid for his job in the middle of a terrible season.
Dexter Fowler, demonstrating his maturation as a leadoff hitter, said, "Dexter said he would show them Powers, and Dexter came through with those emails, Dexter was able to get management to agree that if Dexter stays here until 09, Kenny Powers would be the manager. Dexter thinks that is going to be off the chain."
Pittsburgh owner, Jamieson said, " Manager Joe Price has been fired. It is a surprise to all of us except Mr. Fowler, I suppose. Kenny Powers will be the next Pirate manager. We made this decision like all of our other ones. Carefully, with deliberate thought and consideration for the organization as a whole. We need a guy with an attitude like Kenny's and we need Dexter to hit for more power. There I go calling him Dexter. We knew something was up when Heywood demanded a promotion and then Mr. Fowler contacted our office."
This should get interesting, very soon but it seems like the Kenny Powers deal calmed down the minors, for now.
