They started off hot and swept the Giants, but then dropped two of three vs the Brew Crew, and finished with a loss vs the Astros.
The first two games of the Giant series were pitching duels with a 2 to 1 win, followed by a 3 to 2 win. Game one Bud Smith bested Billingsly, allowing Valverde to get only his fourth save of the season on the 28th game of the season.
The following night old man Smoltz got his 4th win, and Valverde got his 5th save. Atlanta hitters did their pitchers no favors batting just 0.193 for the game. The difference in the game came down to the Braves getting 5 walks to the Giants none, as the Giants only had 6 hits like the Braves.
