Jeter has once again opened up a sizable lead 111 games into the season. He has an 8 SB lead as we head into the middle part of August, up from 3 in July. Holliday moved up from #6 to #2 as he switches places with Willie T who falls to 6th after only swiping 6 bases in July. Chipper holds on to 3rd place but falls off of Jeter's pace. Pedroia moved up from 8th place to make it really interesting from 2-9. Reese falls off the list replaced by Texas' Furcal who joins the list in 8th place.
Quest for Chipper's 2006 Record of 112
68 bases in 111 games give Jeter a pace for 98-99 SBs. He isn't toast yet, his July surge gives him a chance but I think we need to see him make a move in August to have a legit shot.

As always, the numbers don't look so gaudy in the NL. Podsednik gave up the lead to Sanchez but Sanchez only holds a narrow 2 base lead and a 3 base lead over Victorino. The NL title is still very much up for grabs even though the record has slipped far enough out of reach for us to call that one. Weeks has slipped off the pace and our hope in him has faded but maybe he will have an August that can get him back in the chase. The Top 10 for the NL remains unchanged as far as new names. Upton moved up 2 spots from 8 to 6, Cendeno falls a smot, and Renteria and Utley are deadlocked for the second straight month to make the bottom of the Top 10 chart highly volatile and vulnerable to sudden changes during August.
