Monday 8/22/2008: Young (SEA) and Helton (COL) win P.O.W. award
Mike B. Young wins his 8th Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Mike B. went 14 for 28 (.500), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 16 RBI. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Todd Helton, Colorado's starting first baseman. In 23 at bats he hit .478 with 3 HR and 9 RBI.
Friday 8/19/2008: Adrian Beltre punishes Texas with four hits, cycle
SEATTLE - Adrian Beltre led Seattle to a 11-7 win over Texas by squeezing four hits out of his bat. That's not the best part, though. He hit for the cycle as well! In the 1st inning he unloaded a RBI triple off Freddy Garcia. A single in the 3rd off Freddy Garcia accounted for his 2nd hit. His 3rd hit, off Freddy Garcia in the 5th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. In the 7th inning he belted a double off Courtney Duncan. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Adrian scored 3 runs, and he collected 3 RBI as well! This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 125 hits in 338 at bats, resulting in a .370 batting average. 131 players in league history have so far hit for the cycle, including Adrian. Esteban German was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 4/29/2008.
