The final Farm Report of the year has the Pirate system ranked squarely at the top of the league. However, AAA affiliate Pittsburgh finished 7th in the AAA standings, AA Pittsburgh finished in 2nd, and AAA Pittsburgh finished in 5th. Owner Jamieson expressed disappointment, "I really wanted that AAA crown, maybe next year."
September is the month for callups. No real surprises as the Pirates added reliever Matt Capps to the September roster after calling him up twice during the regular season. MR Gabbard gets called back up as well just to get some innings and rest arms as we go down a meaningless stretch. C Jesus Flores is the 3rd addition to the ML roster. Pittsburgh wants to get him some at bats but it is unlikely that he will see time behind the plate with Bako being the defensive replacement.
We are in the home stretch and the Pirates farm system is quiet for the time being, we expect to see a flurry of action in the winter months as we look forward to a bunch of 2009 callups.
