Kenny Powers entered the second sim on a very hot seat and it didn't really cool off all that much. Sources from within the team office tell us that Jamieson is furious with the lack of run production. Will he be patient or is his inner George Steinbrenner coming out? Let's see what happened in sim 2 to make him so furious.

The Pirates entered the sim at 1-13, on a 3 game losing streak after having dropped the first game against Philadelphia. The Pirates sent rookie Zach Kroenke to the mound to once again try to stop a losing streak . Kroenke, once again, pitched like a rookie and was lifted after securing one out in the 4th inning. He gave up 5 runs on 5 hits. Pittsburg loses this one in convincing fashion, 9-4 as they lose their 4th in a row and drop to 0-1 on the season. Lieberthal had 2 RBIs and Justin Morneau went 1-3, scoring twice.

Pittsburgh is already looking to avoid their 4th sweep of the young season with Brian Anderson being asked to take the hill against the 2008 Cy Young winner. If he was nervous, it showed. Anderson got beatu up for 5 runs over 4.2 innings and the Pirate bats were silenced as Sheets pitched the complete game shutout to give the Phillies the sweep. Pirates drop their 5th in a row and fall to 0-2 on the sim.

Day off, rumors of massive internal drug testing being conducted.

Pittsburgh arrived home fresh off of a non-official team holiday and look rested and refreshed. Washington arrived in town looking to take advantage of a reeling Pirate team. Hebson vs. Hudson seemed like a nice matchup on paper, and it didn't disappoint. Hudson went 9 giving up 2 runs and Hebson went 8 giving up 2 runs. Rookie Elliott Johnson made a splash in his first ML sim and hit his first ML homerun to walk in the 11th, giving the Pirates a much need 3-2 win. Pirates improve to 1-2 on the sim.

Pittsburgh asked Brad Penny to take another start as Ascencio still has 6 weeks of recovery ahead of him. Pittsburgh jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before Penny ran into trouble in the 2nd. When the dust had settled, Washington led 4-2 but the Pirates tied it in the bottom of the 2nd. Washintongtook the lead back in the 4th and blew it wide open with a 5 run 7th inning. Penny got 11 outs, 6 which were strikeouts, but 3 errors was the difference between a 3 ER outing vs a 6 Run outting. Pirates get trounced 13-4 and fall to 1-3 on the sim.

Pittsburgh was hoping for a bounce back game after getting destroyed in game 2 of the series, and the bats showed up in a big way and rookie Cory Wade turned in his best outing of his young career. Every Pirate, except for Nieves, had a hit in this one. Sexson hit his 3rd homerun of the year, Choo had 3 RBIs and Erstad stole 3 bases to more than double his annual total. Morneau went 4-5 and seems to be getting comfortable in his new threads. Pirates cruise to victory in this one, 13-1. While the team is 2-3 on the sim and 3-16 for the season, fans were seen celebrating after this game as they feel it was a sign of good things to come. Pirates ttake a 2-1 lead in the Washington series.

With a chance to win a series, and to go .500 for the sim, Zach Kroenke would once again get the start. Kroenkie ptiched well until the 6th, carrying a 2-0 lead after the 5th inning. The Washington offense got to him for 3 runs in the 6th and 2 more before he was lifted with 1 out in the 8th. Ultimately, the Pirate bats couldn't get it going for the second night in a row and Washington wins 5-2 after adding 2 8th inning runs. Washington earns the split of the 4 game series and the Pirates end sim 2 with a 2-4 record and fall to 3-17 for the season.
Word on the street is that there have been inquiries into Morneau. We have enough interest that we don't need to put it into the trade forum, but people that read the articles will be aware, we are shopping him. We just bought him last week so the value should match at least what I paid for him, a 1st and prospectS that aren't 4-5 years away. The one game where the Pirate offense showed up gave us a flash of what could be in the future, if Jamieson makes the right moves.
Let's Go Bucs!
