May is the time of year now Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark (Atlanta Fulton County ballpark to be specific) where you can be part of sixty five thousand screaming fans to root on the Braves. Of course everyone knows we’re talking about being in Georgia!
This past week ended in May and started in april, and the Braves would like a do over for May so far.
4/26 Saw the Braves travel to DC where the hits were aplenty and the Braves won four to three, and although the stats said the Senators should win, the Braves did.
The following day 4 27 Bud Smith took the mound and held the Senators to four runs allowing them to an early 2 oh lead in the second, and then both Pitchers seemed to get locked in as there was no more action until the 7th when in the top the Braves tied it up 2 all. In the Bottum, the Senators took the lead again going up 3 to 2. The Eith saw the Braves open it up and take the lead for good scoring three runs to go up 5 to 3 and after Smith gabe up another run in the bottom, Valverde came in in the ninth to shut it down for his 7th save of the season.
4/28: The final game of the Senators series had Old man Smoltz on the mound. Atlanta scored first in the 5th, added two in the sixth and that was all Smoltz would need as he only allowed two in the 8 innings he pitched. Valverde came on for his 8th save as the Braves won 5 to 2.
4/29 The dodgers came to town and we saw Rupe face off against Krenshaw. The Braves bats were poppin scoring one to two runs each of the first 5 innings as the Braves dominated, Bringing Rupe’s record to 2 and 1, and the Braves won 7 – 1.
4/30: Both teams bats were going with a combined 23 hits, the Braves edged this one 5 to 4 with Pedro pitching well enough to pick up his fifth win of the season. Valverde came on to save the game against the Dodgers, and get his 9th of the season.
5/1: The wheels of the week came off here as the Braves bats went quite against the dodgers with only 4. Bud Smith pitched a masterpiece, only allowing two hits but was sone in by SS Sanchez’s two errors and the Dodgers won 1 to nil on just those two hits.
5/2: the last game of the week saw the Braves fall again to the Dodgers as again errors where the story of the game. Smoltz went out and only gave up 2 earned, however 2B Reyes error allowed two more to score and the Braves lost 4 to 2.
This brought a close to the week with the Braves ending up 5 and two, and the Phillies also went 5 and 2 so the Braves are still four games back in the east. Currently the Braves have the forth best record in the NL, but the Giants are only a game back in the WC race. For April the Braves record was 18 and 7. After a horrible first two weeks the pitching staff is starting to look like a normal pitching staff.
