The Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Washington Nationals are being contracted.
We will run a one-round 28-selection draft. The draft order will be randomized, which I will run once this poll closes tomorrow night. The goal is to start the draft during the week, but more likely next weekend. Given the 28 selections, each team gets one (1) selection. After the round is complete, that's it. All other players will be released and become free agents at file flip, and will be part of the off-season 30-day free agency period.
The question is who goes into the pool. I offer 2 options:
Option 1 - ALL PLAYERS go into the pool.
This means that prospects like Freddie Freeman, David Price, Gio Gonzalez and vets like Vlad are all eligible to be selected.
If you are the lucky one to pick #1, you get to select Freeman on his minimal salary or you can select a vet for next season. Note, anyone selected with an expiring contract will be automatically extended one season.
You get the player you selected at file flip.
Option 2 - Only Blue-Star Prospects NOT YET called up go into the pool.
This means that prospects like Freddie Freeman, David Price, Gio Gonzalez and a couple others, along with any gold star guys are NOT eligible to be selected. They will be released and become free agents at file flip, and will be part of the off-season 30-day free agency period. This will mean that you will have to BID on someone like Freeman and who knows what he will fetch for. And who knows if he likes your org, like any other free agent.
The contraction draft will consist of mainly blue star prospects still in the minors. Obviously a smaller pool.
You get the player immediately upon selection and can store them in your minors.
