Braves 5/18
May is the time of year now Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark (Atlanta Fulton County ballpark to be specific) where you can be part of sixty five thousand screaming fans to root on the Braves. Of course everyone knows we’re talking about being in Georgia!
This week the games went like this:
5/10 This was the second game of the series and the Braves also upped their runs scoring early and often as Smoltz cruised to a 10 to 1 win giving him his foruth win on the season. Braves smacked out two and had two stolen bases.
5/11 The last game of the Padres series and Rupe was on fire, throwing a complete game shut out. The Braves scored in the bottom of the first and that was all they needed but they added five more in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings to cruise to an easy 6 oh win. Rabe hit two homers himself, with Sanchez adding another to give the Braves three for the game. Renteria (2) and Cedeno teamed up to give the Braves three steals for the game.
5/13 Houston came to town and while Pedro gave up 3 and got chased in the 7th, the Braves bats were alive with 16 hits to score 6 runs. This gave Pedro his 7th win on the season. Valverde came on in the 9th to get his 13th save. The Braves were four for five in swiping bases for the game.
5/14 Game two of the Houston series had Bud smith go the distance picking up his 5th win. Was not a great showing by him as he gave up three runs, but it was good enough today. No dingers were hit by the Braves but Reyes added to his lead leading stolen base total getting his 23rd.
5/15 The last game of the Houston series and the Braves were going for the Sweep. Smoltz took the mound, but gave up two early runs in the 2nd, putting the Braves in an early hole. The Bats would score in the 3rd to cut the lead to one, but then Smoltz gave up a run in the 5th. Thankfully the bats replied in the bottom of the 5th to tie it up, and then two more in the 6th to give the Braves a 5 to 3 lead that they never gave up. Smoltz was chased in the 7th, Strickland came on in relief got them out of the inning and held the game for Valverde to come on in the 9th and pick up his 14th save. Braves won for the sweep.
5/16 Braves flew to Milwaukee for game one of a 3 game series and Rupe went out and pitched well enough to get his 5th win, however thank goodness the Bats were speaking as he did allow 4 runs. Green sent one yard and the Braves were 2 of 3 for steals. Valverde came on for the 9th and got his 15th save.
5/17 Game two of the Brwere series was a pitching duel between Pedro and Hudson for the Crew. Pedro tried to get the complete game shutout, but when the Crew got a runner on in the 9th Valverde was brought on for his 16th save to preserve the two to oh win. The slow poke Green actually got a stolen base.
For the week the Braves went seven and oh, and the Phillies again only were 3 and 4, and now the Braves are one up on them in the East. The Braves have been doing quite well since the first two weeks of the season, and now are 4th in the NL in runs scored, and 3rd in the NL in runs allowed. For the Month of May the Braves are now 12 and 4 which is pretty good since they started the month one and four.
