Braves 6/2
May and now June is the time of year now Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark (Atlanta Fulton County ballpark to be specific) where you can be part of sixty five thousand screaming fans to root on the Braves. Of course everyone knows we’re talking about being in Georgia!
This week the games went like this:
5/25 Game 3 of the Dback series started the week and it was one one going in. Old man time Smoltz too the mound…. And sucked. He got bombed for 5 in the 5th, but other than that he was superb. Braves lost 5 to one. Braves batters really didn’t help getting 1 run on five hits, where the dbacks got 5 runs on 5 hits. Atlanta had a promotional day going on, sadly they still lost.
5/26 Saw the Braves take on the Pirates in game one of their series. Rupe faced up with one of the few Pirate pitchers having a good season, and had the better day. Rupe went to 7 and one, giving up two runs over 9 innings. Wade for the Pirates only got his second loss on the season dropping to 5 and 2. The Braves runners seemed to run at ease as the Braves picked up eight stolen bases. Sanchez picked up two to move into sole position in the NL with 27.
5/27 Game two in the Pirates series had Dickey on the mound and while he gave up 2 runs in 7 and a third, he did enough to pick up his forth win and is now 4 and one on the season. Cedeno showed off his muscles parking two dingers, one a solo shot and the other driving in 3. Valverde came on for his 19th save though he gave up another run, and the Braves won 5 to 3.
5/28 The third game in the Pirate series and the Braves were looking for a sweep. Pedro took the mound and got hammered giving up 5 in 6 and a third in the 5th and 6th inning. That wiped out the 5 oh lead the Braves had. Strickland came on in the 7th to relieve and shut down the Pirates, then in the top of the 9th the Braves scored three to take the lead 8 to 5. Everyone knew what would come next, Valverde on… and his 20th save. Sweep complete
5/30 Braves put a promotion in place to get tha rabid fans out to help them win the game, sadly Bud Smith got plastered by the Cards batters and the Braves lost 2 to 5 for the second loss on the week, and the second loss at home.
5/31 With another Braves promotion, game two vs the cards had Smoltz facing Greinke. The Cards D failed Greinke as 2 of the 3 runs the Braves scored were unearned. Smoltz got lucky and notched his 6th win by going 7 and only giving up 2. Of course come the top of the ninth, Valverde came in and shut the muther fuckin game down for his 21st save.
6/1 Game three of the split StL series and Rupe hit the mound to get his eight win, and Valverde came on for his 21st save. Sanchez got two steals to extend his stolen base lead in the NL and now has 29.
For the week the Braves went five and two, and the Phillies were also 5 and 2, and the Braves are one up on them in the East still. The Braves have been doing quite well since the first two weeks of the season, and now are 4th in the NL in runs scored, and 3rd in the NL in runs allowed. For the Month of May the Braves are now 18 and 5 which is pretty good since they started the month one and four.
Saw thes guys for a 4th of July festival down in Miami circa… 1990?
