Monday 6/13/2009: Charlie A. Morton quiets San Diego bats with shutout
SAN DIEGO - Chicago (N)'s right-hander Charlie A. Morton is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking San Diego on just one hit. It's his 4th shutout this season, and the 6th time he has done it in his career. Morton (12-3) struck out 9 and walked 2, throwing 74 of 112 pitches for strikes. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' Felipe Lopez helped Morton at the plate, he stroked 3 hits in 5 AB, hitting a homerun, hitting 2 doubles, with three runs scored and driving in 3 runs. Chicago (N) improved its record to 39-27, scoring 10 runs on 13 hits.
Monday 6/13/2009: Josh Johnson turns in great performance against Oakland
OAKLAND - Toronto's lefty Josh Johnson is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Oakland on just one hit. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 7th time he has done it in his career. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Johnson (8-2) fanned 5 and walked 1, throwing 108 pitches. David Dellucci helped Johnson at the plate, he finished 2 for 3, doubling twice, with 2 RBI. Toronto improved its record to 48-18, scoring 3 runs on 10 hits.
Monday 6/13/2009: Chicago (N)'s Scott wins Player of the Week award
It's the 3rd time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Toronto's first baseman Paul Konerko. Paul pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .478 with 4 HR and 10 RBI while slugging 1.130. It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Chicago (N)'s rightfielder Luke Scott. He hit .393 with 14 RBI and slugged .821 in 28 at bats. Luke managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week.
Saturday 6/11/2009: Willie Greene stars with 2000th career hit
CLEVELAND - Willie Greene got a standing ovation from 45450 fans in Cleveland, who witnessed his 2000th career hit. Along with his 2000 hits, Willie collected 443 homeruns and 1355 RBI in 13 seasons. 'Wow. That is all I can say now. I'm thrilled.' With one out in the 7th inning, Willie drilled a single, causing a standing ovation from the crowd.
Friday 6/10/2009: Edwin Encarnacion out for 8 weeks
BALTIMORE - Being hit with a pitch is no fun at all. Especially when you get injured. Baltimore's shortstop Edwin Encarnacion will miss about 8 weeks after being hit by Justin Verlander in the 4th inning of the game between Baltimore and Detroit. Baltimore wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Encarnacion had suffered a Fractured Hand. Encarnacion has walked 33 times this year and posts a .419 OBP. While batting .293, 53 for 181, he has driven in 36 runs.

TEXAS - Great days are rare. But not for Texas' southpaw Mark Mulder. Kansas City found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 10th time he has done it in his career. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Charles Gipson singled with two outs in the 7th inning. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Mulder (2-8) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking none, throwing 114 pitches. Carlos Delgado helped Mulder at the plate, he finished 3 for 3, doubling twice, scoring three times and driving in 2 runs. Texas improved its record to 31-32, scoring 8 runs on 12 hits.
