Braves 6/17
June is still the time of year now Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark (Atlanta Fulton County ballpark to be specific) where you can be part of sixty five thousand screaming fans to root on the Braves. Of course everyone knows we’re talking about being in Georgia!
This week the games went like this:
6/9 Rupe went to the mound for the last game of the four game series against the Marlins, and he picked up his 9th win of the season. Atlanta scored two in the fourth and then tow in the 5th and never looked back. After the Marlins tagged Rupe for 2 in the 7th, come the 9th Skipper called on Valverde, and after a week off, he looked fresh came in and retired the side on 10 pitches with a SO, and picked up his league leading 23rd save.
6/10 Atlanta hit the road to take on Washington, and RA Dickey got game one details. Dickey has been on a tear of late, got his 5th win while only giving up one run in 8 and a third. After allowing a a score and a couple hits in the 9th Skip gave up on the CGSO for Dickey and brought in Valverde who again looked sharp striking out the last two on 8 pitches getting his 24th save.
6/11 Game two of the Washington series had Pedro up and the early innings were wild. Pedro got touched for 4 runs, however only one was earned as the Braves committed 5 errors on the game. With the win, Pedro is 9 and 3 on the season. Valverde got another save to now lead the league with 25 saves, and Reyes got two steals to now lead the NL with 35 steals.
6/12 Going for the sweep Bud Smith took the mound and did what he does best, he shut the opposition down. While the Senators tagged him for a run it was unearned and Bud got his 9th win of the season. Cedeno smacked one out and the braves added 2 for 3 steals on the basepaths. The Braves got the sweep!
6/13 On to the bay area, and game one vs the Giants had Smoltz on the mound for the Braves. So far this season, the Braves have not been particularly good vs the Giants so tension was high. Smoltz pitched great only giving up 2 runs in 7 innings, however the Braves gave up the lead in the 8th after he exited. For some reason Skip yanked Hanarahan after an out and sent Valverde in early and he gave up a run in the 8the to allow the game to be tied. Braves batters bailed him out in the 9th and he got the win. Smoltz got another no decision.
6/14 Game two of the Giant series in the Bay had Rupe take the mound and he was masterful into the 8th inning only allowing a run. Both teams scored in the first, the Braves going up two one, and that’s how the game ended. Rupe picked up his 10th win of the season. Green was the difference as he parked one in the 1st with one on, and that was all the offense the Braves needed and all they got.
6/15 Dickey was on the mound and he got the Braves the sweep picking up his 6th win.
For the week the Braves went seven and oh, and the Phillies were 5 and 2, and the Braves are THREE up on them in the East now. The Braves have been doing quite well since the first two weeks of the season, and now are 4th in the NL in runs scored, and 3rd in the league for ERA. For the Month of June the Braves are now 13 and 2 which is pretty good.
First ever concert I ever went to was the Beach Boys, and while I’ve always loved them, never realized how great there music was till I started seeing some of the studio footage.
