Another victim of the farm team article being deleted was the June Need For Speed Report. Again, we apologize for any life changed by the late publishing. Let's see how things have been going on the basepaths
Willy T continues his tear career season in the AL with 27 steals since the May report. Juan Pierre is staying within striking distance though, waiting to pounce if Taveras faulters. The AL SB King, Chipper Jones remains in third place, giving the Tigers 2 top 3 base stealers.
Rollins is keeping the race for 3rd tight coming in 2 bases behind King Chipper. Gutierrez falls off the pace with 37 steals, up from a tie for 7th in the first report of the season. Pedroia is on his heels with 25, giving Boston their second thief in the top 10. Furcal looks to move up the board before next month but Holliday has yet to get things in gear, sitting on 31 steals.
Quest for Chipper's 2006 Record of 112. I had to go look up #9, Jeff DaVanon, as the 35 yo pops onto the top 10 list for the Angels. He has already tied his 2008 steals total, and looks to challenge his 1999 career high of 42. Can his legs hold out. Old man time still hasn't caught up to Icharo either, as he comes in at #10 for the June report.
Detroits' third thief, Branyan fell off this list this month, alont with Toronto's second representative, Alex Gordon.
Quest for Chipper's 2006 Record of 112
68 games into the 2009 season, Taveras' 51 stolen bases puts him on a staggering 75% rate. This staggering pace puts him on pace for 121.5 stolen bases.
Pierre's 47 bases in 68 games puts him on a 69% pace. This pace has him projected at 112 SB.
Let's see if T can keep up the pace through the heat of summer. The schedule has a way of catching up to folks.

In the NL, Reyes continues to run wild, piling up 24 steals since our last report. Sanchez surges up from the #6 spot to #2 and is trying to keep pace with his teammate, with 33 bases. It looks like Reyes could pull away in the next month, though. Figgins has 32, pushing Sanchez, pushing Reyes. SF has the #4 spot with Angel Pagan sitting 10 back of the lead. Podsednick moves out of the tie for 6th and moves into a tie for 5th with the Reds' Gardner. Perez, Utley, and Victorino all fall and land in a three way tie for 7th place with 27 bases each.
Hunter Pence pops onto the list at number 10, for the first time this season. Ryan Freel fell off the list for June.
Quest for Lou Brock's 1970 Record of 106
68 games into the season Reyes 39 steals may be tops in the NL but at a 57% pace, it is well off of the pace needed to break Lou's record. Reyes is projected to finish the season with 92 steals. Let's see if he has another gear this month.
