Braves 7/1
June is still the time of year now Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark (Atlanta Fulton County ballpark to be specific) where you can be part of sixty five thousand screaming fans to root on the Braves. Of course everyone knows we’re talking about being in Georgia!
This week the games went like this:
6/24 Last game of the Houston series and Rupe took the mound. He went most of the distance, only giving up a run, for his 12th win of the season. Braves went 3 for 4 on the base paths, and again another game with no homers. The power has seemed to be missing from the bats now for several games. Eventually this will come back to haunt them.
6/25 The Brewers in town and the defense let Roach down, as he got tagged for 5 runs, but only 3 were earned. He took the loss getting the start in place of the injured Martinez. Atlanta again, had no dingers, and the team as a whole just is not generating power when they have four on the team that should be parking at least 30 a year.
6/26 RA Dickey took it on the chin giving up 4 runs in 8 plus innings, picking up his second loss to now be 7 and 2 on the season. The Braves bats were silent only getting one run off of four hits. The Braves at home this season are nothing compared to the Braves on the road.
6/27 Hitting the road, the Braves thankfully got the Reds to end the two game skid. John Smoltz took the mound and never left, picking up his second straight Complete Game Shut Out, he is now just one away from 100 all time. He is now 8 and 5 on the season as he adds on to his records wins and now has 480. If he comes back next season, could he actually achieve 500? The Braves actually displayed some power finally, knocking three out of the park. On the base paths they swiped 6 bases in 7 attempts, with Sanchez leading the way collecting 3 to reach 40 on the season.
6/28 Bud Smith finally had a good game again, like Smoltz the day before went the distance, and did not give up an earned run, however faulting gloves caused him to lose the bid for a CGSO as the Reds did score. Three Braves went yard in the game, providing enough scoring for the Braves to win it 7 to 1 and now Bud is 11 and 5 on the season.
6/29 The last game of the Reds series and the chance for the Sweep had Rup on the mound and he did not disappoint collecting his 13th win of the season. The Brave hit four dingers and Sanchez had two of them in his quest of a 30/30 season. He is going to have to pick up his pace on putting the ball out of the park if he hopes to get to the 30/30 club as currently he is only on pace to have 22.
6/30 Roach was on the mound and he pitched well enough to win, but today this was the day the Braves pen sucked ass and allowed the game to be stolen from Roach. Giving up three runs in the 7thg and 8th combined the DBacks did not even have to bat in the 9th as the Braves lost the last game before the allstar break.
For the week the Braves went four and three, and the Phillies were 3 and 4, and the Braves are FIVE up on them in the East now. The Braves have been doing quite well since the first two weeks of the season, and now are 3rd in the NL in runs scored, and 3rd in the league for ERA. For the Month of June the Braves are now 21 and 7 which was pretty good.
Always loved this song, and also saw it live at that 4th of July festival down at Bayside.
