Braves 7/21
July is still the time of year now Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark Lets look at the week in review
This week the games went like this:
7/13 The Braves had another game at home vs the dodgers and Rupe went most of the distance to get his 14th win of the season. He is now 14 and 3 on the year and has been the best Braves pitcher since he came back from injury. In scoring the 6 runs for the win the Braves hit a solo shot in the 8th for the only homer for them. They also collected three more steals and as a team have the most in the NL. The attendance was 59786 for Baseball Cap Day at Atlanta - Fulton County Coliseum, and the weather was Clear skies, 80 degrees, with the wind blowing out to left at 19 mph. Kinda surprised there was not more homers in the game.
7/14 It was lemon 714 day at the ball park and it showed as the Braves looked very sluggish, and dropped the game to the Dodgers. Smoltz pitched well enough to win, but for the first time Valverde failed him and gave up the lead in the 9th. After being untouchable for the beginning of the season, now Valverde is giving it away. He also wasted the three dingers the Braves had hit, they had been up 4 nothing going into the 8th when everything went wrong. The attendance was 61062 on Bat Day at Atlanta Fulton County Coliseum, and the weather was Partly cloudy, 69 degrees, with the wind blowing left to right at 17 mph.
7/15 Found the Braves out in Arizona roasting in the sun. RA Dickey took the mound and had one of his best games of the season, throwing a complete game shutout, and collecting his 9th win of the season. The Braves jumped out to a 4 run lead in the top of the 1st. From that point on the Braves cruised and ended up winning seven nil. During the game the Braves parked 2 to the cheap seats and on the base paths they had one steal.
7/16 The Dbacks repaid the Braves cruising to a 7 to 1 victory and Roach for the Braves phoned in a stinker of a pitching appearance. Not much to say about this game, the Braves jumped out to a 1 nothin lead only to give up 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st and the DBacks never looked back.
7/17 The last game in Zona for the series and Bud Smith to the mound and gave up only 2 runs in his 8 innings. Valverde came on for the 9th, was kinda rocky as it took him 19 pitches to get out of the game and pick up his 29th save. With the win Bud is now 14 and 5 on the season. The Braves sent a couple into the cheap seats and also picked up a couple steals on the base paths.
7/18 After taking two of three against Zona, the Braves went further west and thought they were just going to be handed a sweep against the Padres, however that is not the way it went. Rupe took the mound and was blasted by the Padres, giving up 9 over 6.2 innings. Some how according to the game log the Braves only pitched 7 and 2/3rds… Weird. One dinger and one stolen base in this shit show was the only highlight.
7/19 Smoltz was tasked to stop the bleed after two straight losses and did just that. John pitched a complete game, only giving up one for his 10th win of the season. Giving up a run in the third ruined his bid for his 100 CGSO. The Braves were 4 of 5 in getting steals, and they walked away with a 3 to one win.
7/20 The last game of the week was also the final game of the Padres series. RA Dickey again pitched a great game picking up his 10th win on the season as is 10 – 2. Valverde got the save, his 30th.
For the week the Braves went five and three, and the Phillies were 6 and 2, and the Braves are FOUR up on them in the East now. The Braves have been doing quite well since the first two weeks of the season, and now are 3rd in the NL in runs scored, and 3rd in the league for ERA. For the Month of July the Braves are now 10 and 4 which is pretty good.
