Saturday 7/30/2009: Francisco Liriano fires NO-NO against San Diego
COLORADO - Colorado's lefty Francisco Liriano made some history today, firing a no-hitter against San Diego. Their hitters found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, never having a chance against his overpowering stuff. Liriano (13-6) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking 2, throwing 128 pitches. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today, and it's especially nice to do it in such fashion.' Steve Cox helped Liriano at the plate, he collected 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate, homering twice, with three runs scored with 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 8-0.
Saturday 7/30/2009: Max Scherzer (SEA) will miss 5-6 weeks
SEATTLE - Seattle is without its right-hander Max Scherzer for at least 5-6 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to David Dellucci in a game against Toronto. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Scherzer was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Ruptured Bicep Tendon. Opposing players hit .248 against Max this season. While posting an ERA of 6.67 he went 5-4 in 21 starts, fanning 104 and walking 94 hitters. Max has pitched one shutout and 2 complete games.
Friday 7/29/2009: Rondell White has 2000th career hits
TORONTO - Toronto's players had every reason to congratulate Rondell White, who reached a milestone today, collecting his 2000th career hit! He hit a single in the 8th off Joel Pineiro for number 2000. Along with his 2000 hits, Rondell collected 390 homeruns and 1310 RBI in 12 seasons. 'This day is special, I'll probably remember it my whole life. Thank god I'm blessed with the talent to play this game.'
Thursday 7/28/2009: Justin Upton (SFG) will miss 5-6 weeks
SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's season has taken a hit after one of their best players, leftfielder Justin Upton, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 5-6 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Inflamed Posterior Cruciate Ligament. Surgery will be performed next week. This year Upton drove in 46 and scored 56 runs while batting .249 with 19 longballs.
