Braves 7/28
July is still the time of year now Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark Lets look at the week in review
This week the games went like this:
7/22 After a day off Atlanta was back at home taking on the Astros. Game one had Bud Smith trot out and he pitched phenomenally only giving up a run over the 9 innings he pitched, however the Braves bats let him down and it was all tied up going into extra innings. Both Atlanta scores were off of solo shots to the cheap seats. Sanchez ended the game in the 11th with a walk off dinger with two outs. The attendance was 64977 at Atlanta Fulton County Coliseum, and the weather was: Clear skies, 73 degrees, with the wind blowing in from right at 9 mph.
7/23 Game two of the Houston series had Rupe on the mound, looking for a bounce back from his previous outing. He fielders did him no favors allowing three unearned runs but in the end he picked up his 15th win and is 15 and 4 on the season. The former gold glove SS Boone picked up two of the three errors the Braves committed. The attendance was 64953 at Atlanta Fulton County Coliseum, and the weather was Rain, 77 degrees, with the wind blowing left to right at 13 mph.
7/24 The third game of the Houston series with the Braves going for the sweep had Smoltz going for his 11th win. While he pitched like shit, he did manage to pick up the win and is now 11 and 5 on the season. What is so stupid about it was the Braves pitching staff got rocked, and for a change the Braves batters bailed out the pitchers and even though the pitching staff was bound and determined to blow the 7 to one lead they had, they held on and the Braves walked out with the victory. Valverde came on and got his 31st save. The Braves went 3 for 4 on steals and put one into the cheap seats. The Attendance was 64978 at Atlanta - Fulton County Coliseum, and the weather was Cloudy, 74 degrees, with the wind blowing left to right at 11 mph.
7/25 The Brew crew came to town and RA Dickey had a less than stellar day on the mound, and got no decision after allowing 5 runs in less than 7 innings of work. End of day though, Valverde was called on, the Braves won and he got the save, which is his league leading 32 of the season. Reyes stole three bases to add to his lead leading total that is now 52 stolen bases. The Attendance was 61744 at Atlanta - Fulton County Coliseum, and the weather was Partly cloudy, 71 degrees, with the wind blowing right to left at 9 mph.
7/26 Game two of the four game series vs the Brew Crew, and Roach was out there trying to have a good outing, something he really has not done since getting into the rotation after the Pedro injury. Today though, it would not matter as the Braves batters showed up to give him run support like he has not seen previously this season. Initially it looked like it would be disastrous for Roach as the Brew Crew jumped out to a two run lead in the top of the first., but 11 runs later.. it was 11-2 Braves. The attendance was 63012 at Atlanta - Fulton County Coliseum, and the weather was partly cloudy, 75 degrees, with the wind blowing left to right at 8 mph.
7/27 Game three of the four game series vs the Brew Crew, and Bud Smith took the mound looking for his 15th win. He went 8 innings allowing two runs on six hits, and got the win improving to 15 and 5 on the season. Valverde pitched the 9th picking up his 33rd save even though he allowed two base runners. The Braves were 4 for 5 on the basepaths with Reys getting his 54th and Sanchez grabbing his 50th. Attendance: 60436 (65000) at Atlanta Fulton County Coliseum, and the weather was partly cloudy, 75 degrees, with the wind blowing out to center at 10 mph.
For the week the Braves went six and oh, and the Phillies were 3 and 2, and the Braves are SIX up on them in the East now. The Braves have been doing quite well since the first two weeks of the season, and now are 3rd in the NL in runs scored, and 3rd in the league for ERA. For the Month of July the Braves are now 16 and 4 which is pretty good.
